Unlock Classical Music In-Person

Popular music changes with the times. Once, Beethoven, Verdi, Mozart, Stravinsky and other classical composers created the popular music of the day. Not so much now. However, the same skills we use to listen to today's pop music can be carried over into Classical music of yesteryear. The language spoken by classical music may not be as well known today, but you can learn. Join Herb Smith, guest conductor and 3rd trumpet of RPO, as he helps you interpret and unlock the language of Classical music. Please register below.

This program is part of a series highlighting participants of In This Moment: Revolution Reckoning Reparation, a project for ten teams of Black writers and photographers to profile ten Black leaders from across the city of Rochester published by Visual Studies Workshop. The project demonstrates the breadth and scope of revolutionary work happening in the area. This library series is co-sponsored by the Monroe County Library System and the Rochester Public Library.

About the Presenter: Herb Smith is a guest conductor with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as well as 3rd trumpet in the orchestra.  He is a composer, director of Jazz Bands at the Rochester Institute of Technology and leads his own jazz trio the Freedom Trio which was featured on WXXI Homestage at The Little.
