Democrat and Chronicle education reporter Justin Murphy shares research on the history of housing and education discrimination in the Rochester area. He will discuss local demographic changes and the way racist housing policies and actions by the Rochester City School District in the Civil Rights Era paved the way for segregated education in Monroe County. The talk is based on his forthcoming book on the history of school segregation in Rochester.

About the presenter: Justin Murphy covers education in the Rochester area, with an emphasis on the Rochester City School District. He has worked at the Democrat and Chronicle since 2012 and before that was a reporter for The Citizen in Auburn, New York. He grew up in Penfield and attended the University of Chicago and the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. He lives with his wife and children in the Highland Park neighborhood.
