Explore the West African Country of Ghana via Its Talking Fabrics

Explore the West African Country of Ghana via Its Talking Fabrics In-Person

Learn how Ghanaians communicate with fabric in a cross-cultural experience provided by Nita Brown, native of Ghana and owner of and designer for MansaWear, a custom-made clothing company in Rochester. As Egyptians used hieroglyphics and millennials use emojis to communicate, Ghanaians use textile weaves and fabric patterns as a language to communicate and express themselves. Nita will discuss the interwoven silk and cotton Kente cloth and the Adinkra symbols used on fabric and demonstrate how these fabrics serve as written language in Ghana. Broaden your international horizons as you explore Ghanaian culture with us. Registration is optional.
