Baby Sitter's Training In-Person
Generation Ready is an American Red Cross Licensed Training Provider offering this class to students age 12-18. Fee for this class is $55 due the day of the class. Cash, check, or charge will be accepted (checks made payable to Ann Marie Messner). Students will receive a certificate of completion from the American Red Cross. Students should bring lunch and a drink with them. Please register.
Course Content:
- Responsibility and leadership
- Being a good role model
- Effective communication with adults, younger children and peers
- Respect for others
- Ideas for playing, what is age appropriate and why it is important to development
- What to expect from children for their age level
- How to handle negative behavior
- How to write a resume, use safe and appropriate ways to get babysitting jobs, and help in determining how much you should be paid
- Bottle and spoon feeding, changing diapers, how to pick up and hold an infant or toddler
- Safety - around the house and the yard
- Recognizing an emergency and using emergency action steps (Check-Call-Care)
- Identifying injuries and illnesses and what is life threatening and what is not
- Who and when to call in different emergency situations
- First Aid: what to do about scrapes, rashes, bumps, bruising, burns, and bleeding
- How to help conscious and unconscious choking infant or child
- How to care for a child who is not breathing
- Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
